Meditation has been around for over 5,000 years in Eastern culture but more recently its teachings and practices have been used in the Western world. Meditation is a state of altered awareness very similar to hypnosis where you let your mind and body relax and turn the attention inwards.
This is a very simple mindfulness meditation, all it involves is you taking a walk in a peaceful environment. It could be your garden, the local park or a beautiful countryside, making sure you are safe before you start. The walking meditation is done in silence. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, take a couple of deep breaths letting go of all tension in your out breath. Look around and take in the beauty of your surroundings. Begin walking very slowly keeping your attention on your feet with each step you take. Walk for 15-30 minutes then find a place to sit with your eyes closed for another 10-15 minutes. Notice the changes in you and the difference in your wellbeing.
This is a simple and fun mindfulness meditation, all you need is your favourite music and space to dance uninhibited (ie. nobody watching). Select your music according to what mood you are in or want to be. Whether you choose fast upbeat music or soft tunes, pick about 30-45 minutes worth with another 10-15 minutes of gentle sounds. Stand bare feet and loose clothing, close your eyes and play your music allowing your body to move as it wants to. Remember nobody is watching and you are not entering for the disco diva awards! Keeping your eyes closed, sit or lay down for the last 10-15 minutes - bliss!
This one hour meditation is usually done at the end of a working day. The four stages will take you through shaking off the stresses of the day, rest your thoughts and bring you peace of mind and body to help you enjoy your evening and have a better night sleep. You stand, sit and lay down in this meditation.
